4th house of the horoscope ⦁ One of the fundamental ones in specifying character

The 4th house is generally associated with home and mother by astrologers, but according to the Vedic system it is related to the houses moksha or liberation, being deeply connected with the more complex 8th and 12th houses.

In fact, the 4th bhava can be a more stormy position than many astrologers admit. Read on to find out why.

The fourth house is one of the four pillars of the horoscope

Being a Kendra house, the 4th house constitutes one of the four pillars on which the entire horoscope rests. The 4th house has many attributes, which are determined by the different Graha. The primary significator-planet of the 4th Bhava is the Moon. It is the significator of the mother, compassion, sentiments, and also the residence (as a hearth). The secondary Karkas of the 4th house are:

  • Venus, which supervises automobiles, items of convenience and extravagance, and the motherland;
  • Mars, ruler of the lands;
  • Ketu, the ruler of buildings, apartments;
  • Mercury, which rules education, childhood friends;
  • Jupiter, the ruler of general happiness or sukha, contentment,
  • Saturn, who rules sadness or dukkha .

Secondary karakas help to better understand the strength of the house in various aspects of its manifestation. Most often, we have to evaluate the strength of one or another aspect of the house, and not the strength of the bhava as a whole.

In this, in addition to secondary karakas, he is helped by varga kundali. They allow for a more differentiated analysis of the house in relation to its various indicators. Namely:

  • Hora (D-2) deals with issues of wealth in the form of land ownership;
  • Chaturthamsha or Turyamsha (D-4) considers real estate, property;
  • Shodashamsha or Kalamsha (D-16) studies vehicles and other items that make life more comfortable;
  • Chaturvimshamsha or Siddhamsha (D-24) deals with different levels of education;
  • Khavedamsha (D-40) examines karma from the side of the mother’s heritage;
  • Akshavedamsha (D-45) contemplates karma from the side of the father’s heritage.

Fourth House – Sukha Bhava

To truly understand the meaning of the 4th house, let us turn to its Vedic name.

Sage Parashara calls this house Sukha bhava.

Sukha is translated as happiness, contentment, state of peace, state of comfort.

Indeed, the 4th house is one of the most important places in the natal chart, because it is there that we seek peace and satisfaction for our heart. It is no coincidence that another name for this house is Hryd bhava or heart bhava.

The 4th house exhibits vigorous enjoyment and the ability to find inner stability. External enjoyment and success are nothing but a thinking of inner stability.

The 4th house embodies the prudent nature of our soul, where we are effortlessly damage, where we feel personally powerless. That is why we always defend it.

Our physical residence is associated with the 4th house because it embodies an area where we can relieve tension, where we can feel unassailable, secure and free to investigate our feelings without being impacted on by the outer world.

Benefics as well as malefics in own signs or exaltation signs in the 4th house bring happiness or sukha

. Malefics here become more malefics

. They bring sorrow or duhkha

Kapata yoga and character

It is worth dwelling in more detail on the malefics occupying the 4th bhava. The 4th house concurrently with the Lagna primarily discerns the personality of an individual.

The situation is especially unfavorable when both houses – Lagna and 4th – are occupied by malefics. If there are no benefics in the kendras, then this is a cause for concern.

Malefics in the 1st or 4th houses can indicate people who are very close to a person, very dear to a person’s heart. But who will not be kind to him.

There is a great danger that the person himself may become like that. His heart may become hardened. Serious corrective measures are required to cleanse the heart and mind of such a person.

If only there is an evil malefic in the 4th house and there is no malefic influence on the Lagna, then the person may have a good character, but there is a great danger of being deceived by others.

This position is called Kapata Yoga. Kapata translates as deception.

If in the 4th house there is:

  • Rahu, then the person will be very much deceived;
  • Shani, then he will see great sadness in life;
  • Mangal, he can get beaten up badly.

Malefic planets should not be placed in their own sign or exaltation sign to promise the above results.

In such a development of events, there is a great danger that a person may not cope with internal problems. He may begin to deceive in return or cause suffering to others.

Which starts a new cycle of deception-corruption in Kali-yuga. The soul gets darkened. And the repeated cycles of deception-corruption create more soul-karma.

That is why if there is an evil malefic in the 4th house, such a person should automatically forgive those who do bad things against him.

You still need to speak well of them.

This is the only way to overcome Kapata Yoga. Kapata Yoga is nothing more than an indicator of bad karma committed by the person himself in past lives.

Only by speaking well of others can one cleanse oneself of negative karma.

It is also advisable to strengthen any benefic planet influencing the Lagna or 4th house to block the negative influences of malefics.

The fourth house is the house of moksha

The 4th house, closely associated with the heart and the heart chakra, is the place where we learn to cope with experiences through touched feelings and emotional wounds. It is an emotionally vulnerable place.

This is where the need for solitude from the world to find emotional balance comes in. If there is no emotional happiness, then we are forced to go in search of it to get rid of emotional pain.

It is the desire to find inner comfort and satisfaction that is the starting point on the thorny path to final liberation or moksha.

Moksha is the attainment of absolute contentment, an unconditional state of happiness that comes with self-knowledge of the true Self.

Being one of the Moksha Trikona houses, the 4th house takes us through the 8th house of inner transformations to eternal bliss, knowledge and happiness in the 12th house where deep experiences of meditation and samadhi can occur.

We hope that after reading this answer we were able to clarify some important aspects of the fourth house of the horoscope.

This would not have been possible without the clarifications of an experienced Jyotish guru in the parampara of Jyotish.
