The Arudha of a house is calculated by measuring the distance between the house and its ruler, then projecting the same distance forward from the ruler. A special exception applies when the calculated Arudha falls in the same sign or directly opposite the original house, in which case the tenth sign from that position becomes the Arudha.

Although the seventh house governs relationships, partnerships, and marriage, it also rules business associations, contracts, public dealings, and social interactions. For this reason, it does not exclusively describe married life.
