Nowadays, the pursuit of material well-being has become one of the main goals in the lives of most people in countries where modern civilization with its inherent values and standards has left its mark on the style and way of life in society.
The desire to satisfy the need for shelter, food and security is inherent in every person regardless of his race, nationality, origin and genetic heritage.
In the age we live in, maximalism has become the life credo of most people. Along with the growing needs at a staggering pace comes a tendency towards overconsumption.
There are few people who do not set themselves the goal of material well-being and live in complete disinterest in financial circumstances. No matter how much the importance and role of money in modern society is denied, at this stage of its development it remains a “necessary evil”, without which we could hardly satisfy our need to consume most goods and even basic necessities. health costs money these days too.
On the other hand, the unequal distribution of wealth is becoming more and more evident on a global scale, and not only in the society to which we belong. There is a divide between rich and poor on a geopolitical and ethnic scale, and the principle of unequal distribution of available resources applies both throughout the world and within individual groups and societies. The small is a reflection of the big, and the private of the global.
In this post, we will look at the question of financial status and material well-being in the context of the individual destiny set in the natal chart at the moment of our birth. What family will we be born into, will we have a good start, what circumstances will we encounter in search of material security, where we tend to lose and where to win, what is the formula for success, will our chosen profession bring financial stability and status in society, will we succeed in a given business partnership, will we reap fruits after hard work or step on a red carpet?
All these questions are asked by every average person. Armed with the knowledge that astrology gives us, we will be better prepared to meet the challenges and difficult circumstances of life, and also to take advantage of the chances that fate sends us at a given moment. And, last but not least, we will not blame everything on “evil fate”, because Vedic astrology gives us the opportunity to have a more conscious and in-depth look at the circumstances we encounter in life, to understand the invisible cause-and-effect relationship that it manifests at the moment of our birth and gradually reveals itself to us.
In classical Western astrology, there are a number of schemes for determining the social status of a person born. Attention is paid to the traditional benefactors – Venus and Jupiter, to the position of the luminaries, doryphoria, planets with special merits and other indicators. It is accepted that Venus is the main significator of money in view of its mundane rulership over the sign Taurus and second house in the horoscope.
At the core of Vedic astrology is the concept of karma, the law of cause and effect, of the invisible connections and mutual conditioning of phenomena and processes in the material world. Indians believe that the law of karma causes a series of repeated incarnations of the soul in matter. With a deeper analysis of the astrological chart, one can see what was the leading motive of the soul in its last, more important incarnation and how it determined its desire for the next incarnation in matter.
In Indian astrology, planets are also divided into natural benefics and malefics, though this division is somewhat different from the approach adopted by astrologers in the West. Basically, Jupiter, Venus and Mercury are considered benefics, while Sun, Mars, Saturn and the Moon’s nodes (Rahu and Ketu) are malefics. The Moon can be a benefic if it is waxing, essentially strong and receives aspects from planets of benefic nature, and a malefic if it is waning, essentially weak and receives aspects from malefic planets. Here I will mention again that in Vedic astrology a key role is assigned to the Moon, which gives information not only about the character, temperament and mental qualities of the person born, but also about his destiny.
There are a number of yogas viz. planetary combinations which are considered with the involvement of the Moon. They are essential in the analysis of the potential inherent in the horoscope, when looking for greater depth and complexity in the interpretation of a given topic. In addition to the lunar ones, there are other yogis who provide information about the circumstances and opportunities in a person’s life, about the line of his destiny – they will be mentioned later.

Venus and its meaning in the horoscope
In Vedic mythology, she is known as Shukra or Shukracharya, son of sage Bhrigu and teacher of demons. In Western astrology, Venus is known as Lucifer, and the Jews call her Ashtoreth (Astarte).
In astrology, Venus is seen as the significator of love, marriage, beauty, art and material comfort. In this form she manifests as Maha Lakshmi β the consort of Lord Vishnu.
The Shukra is the significator of the following things:
(Uttara Kalamrita)
β beautiful clothes, jewelry, ornaments
β marriage, spouse
β women, wife (in a male card)
β well-being, comfort
β sexual pleasure, pleasures, sensuality
β music, creativity and arts
A strongly placed Venus in the horoscope is a factor that gives a number of advantages, especially if it is in a trikona position (1, 5, 9 house) or participates in a special combination called Malavya Yoga – Venus in exaltation or mulatrikona (own sign) placed in kendra (angular house) from the Lagna or the Moon in the horoscope. Malavya yoga can endow the native with talents in the field of art, music, design and bring comfort and well-being if it does not conflict with other factors in the horoscope.
And yet Venus is not the significator of money in Indian astrology. Venus symbolizes everything that can be owned, acquired with money, but not money itself as a substance. This is the main difference with Western astrology.
Sometimes a strongly placed Venus in the horoscope can also give witchcraft, a desire to please oneself, to seek pleasures and ease in life, to satisfy all one’s whims and whims. Problematically placed Venus can bring a tendency to extravagance and material losses.
In the Kalapurusha (Cosmic Man) body, Venus rules the 2nd house (Taurus/Vrishabha) – artha – pursuit of material well-being, accumulation of wealth and resources, and the 7th house (Libra/Tula) – kama – desire, sensuality, pursuit of pleasure and satisfaction of needs. It is no coincidence that in the mundane chart, Venus rules two houses associated with sensual pleasures – the 2nd house (the mouth) and the 7th house (the genitals).
If we have to define wealth, Venus is the significator of movables, including expensive and luxury goods, while the significators of immovable property are Mars and Saturn, known as bhumi karakas in astrology (“bhumi” – land, “karaka” – significator). . Venus is not the signifier of the money in the bank account, but of the acquisitions for which we will eventually spend the money, it defines the desire to possess.
Let us also not forget that as the teacher of the demons, Shukra rules not only material prosperity, but also spiritual wealth, possessing remarkable metaphysical and occult knowledge, including astrology.
Then which planet is taken as the significator of money?
In Indian astrology this role is assigned to Jupiter (Guru, Brihaspati). Money as a substance is ruled by Jupiter, while Venus symbolizes possessions and the goods that can be acquired with them, she gives information about our possessions.
I will mention one more factor that should not be underestimated, although it is not the main signifier. This is Rahu – the North Node of the Moon or the Dragon’s Head.
In Vedic mythology, Rahu is the head of the demon who gains immortality and is cut in two. The head symbolizes the power of the senses β desires arise in the mind after contemplating the objects. In the human body, Rahu is related with the mouth, tongue, jaws. Thus, in Indian astrology, Rahu symbolizes the material and sensory desires, in whose captivity the human consciousness resides, but also their illusory nature – Maya. Rahu is related with an incessant appetite to eat and this hunger is not satisfied because it doesn’t have a body (Ketu). Rahu is the demon in our consciousness that we must confront in seeking and knowing the higher dimensions of being, it symbolizes our inner struggle and ultimately the duality of the material world.
The Indians say that only one who has managed to overcome the power of his unconscious desires and free himself from the trap of the senses has stepped on the spiritual path that leads to enlightenment, merging with the divine Self and self-realization, revealing the spiritual potential of the personality .
Materially, the strong influence of Rahu can give prosperity, high financial status, worldly success and power. A strong position of the Moon Nodes is observed in the charts of many successful people, often in combination with other planets.
Rahu is also associated with the drive for over-consumption, which is becoming more and more prevalent in modern society, becoming a fashion trend and mass-proclaimed in the media in all possible ways, plus the utilisation of subtle techniques for manipulation of the human mind and suggestion.
A strong Rahu can bring money related to gambling, smuggling and other types of illegal activities that bring easy and quick profits, participation in corruption schemes and frauds, but also money from foreign trade, large international business, pharmaceutical corporations, offshore companies and others. And inasmuch as Rahu symbolizes the power of thought, it can be involved as a factor in the charts of successful people engaged in risky investments, stock/currency trading or high-tech business, that is, “players” in one sense or another.
Saturn (Shani) should also be mentioned, which at first glance is associated with poverty, scarcity, but on the other hand does not tolerate waste and wastage. In this sense, it can also act as a beneficial factor. Psychologically, Saturn gives a sense of deprivation, but at the same time is a skillful and prudent strategist in managing funds/possessions with a view to their preservation. It is rare for a truly wealthy person who knows how to manage their money perfectly to not have Saturn in a prominent place or in aspect to one of the key factors in the horoscope. In the following, we will convince ourselves of this from the attached sample maps.
And now we come to the houses in the horoscope responsible for money
The houses associated with the pursuit of material security are the so-called artha house second, sixth and tenth.
But when we want to see what will be the social and material status of the native, attention should be paid to a combination of factors involving the elements of the second, fourth, fifth, tenth and eleventh houses.
The twelfth and sixth houses give information about our possible losses. And if the second house is the accumulated money (the capital), the eleventh is the working capital, i.e. all possible receipts, income, profit
The twelfth and sixth houses give information about our possible losses. And if the second house is the accumulated money (the capital), the eleventh is the working capital, i.e. all possible receipts, income, profits. From the point of view of material success, the 11th is the most favorable house, but from the point of view of spiritual development of the personality, it is the most unfavorable house, and its ruler is called “badhaka” – a planet that has the property of causing unexpected turns.
What qualities do we need to achieve material success and prosperity in life?
First of all, purposefulness. Secondly, intelligent planning, strategic thinking. And thirdly, motivation and dedication, which we need to achieve the set goals.
Information about the first factor is given by the Ascendant (Lagna) and its ruler (the Ascendant lord (Lagnalord)
To assess intellectual abilities, we consider the 5th house and its ruler.
(putra bhava)
For the available resources and the start that the family provides us, we judge by the 2nd house
For the available resources and the start that the family provides us, we judge by the 2nd house (dhana bhava)
We look for information about possible profits and income in the 11th house and its ruler.
That means (labha bhava), as well as depending on the position of its ruler.
But there is another factor that plays a key role and without which we would not have the necessary protection. That’s luck.
Regardless of the presence of talents and abilities, ambition and motivation, not every person succeeds in realizing the goals he sets for himself, even if they are not so impossible.
Why, regardless of the efforts we make, do we often get the feeling that “nothing is going right”?
The Indians explain it with the karmic law – the accumulated “credit” from past incarnations of the soul, which can be both with a plus sign and with a minus sign.
Information about the luck with which we came into this world is given by the 9th house (dharma bhava)
in the horoscope and its ruler, and the 5th house is associated with the credit from our past incarnations.
These two houses together with the Ascendant connect with our dharma
, it is here that good grahas feel best.
On the other hand, the presence of malefics in dharma houses
(first, fifth and ninth) and benefics in
dusthana houses(sixth, eighth and twelfth) indicates that in this incarnation we may have to face the consequences of accumulated negative karma in one or another sphere of life.
This karma can be conditioned by past words (2nd house), thoughts (5th house) and actions (10th house).
In this sense, the 10th house has a special meaning – it is the most important house after the Ascendant, the so-called karma bhava
It is here that the results of our actions (past and present) are manifested and projected into the future.
A planet in the 10th house has a very strong influence on our destiny and the circumstances we may encounter in life, because the 10th house is associated with our actions, which materialize in one form or another and subsequently determine our further destiny.
The significator of the 10th house in its
karma bhava
capacity is Saturn, the Sun, Mercury and Jupiter are considered for the social status of the person born, and Mars – for his ability to follow the set goals and achieve them.
Malefics generally feel best in the
upachaya
houses – third, sixth, tenth and eleventh.
Mention should also be made of special planetary combinations which, in combination with other factors in the horoscope, give luck in the material side of life and a chance to accumulate solid capital.
These include various types of
Raja yoga
(especially involving the lords of the 9th and 10th houses), Lakshmi yoga, Dhana yoga, Sampati yoga, Chandra-Mangala yoga, etc.
A powerful Raja Yoga
is formed when a strongly placed planet ruling an angular house (kendra) is in the same sign or in aspect with a planet ruling a trine house (trikona).
The tenth house has the strongest influence and the ninth house is the strongest of all trikonas.
When the 9th and 10th house lords are together in any of the benefic houses in the horoscope, a powerful Raja yoga known as
Dharma-Karmadhipati yoga
is produced .
Thanks to such a yoga, the person born has a chance to achieve high status, success, to enjoy respect and fame in his chosen field.
Of course, no yoga is considered in isolation from the other factors in the horoscope, if the most precise and reliable interpretation is sought.
There are many varieties of Raja Yoga, I will list only a few of them:
- Rulers of 9th and 10th house are placed together in own house
- Parivartana yoga between lord of house9 and house10 – reception by sign or by nakshatra
- Aspect between house9 and house10
- House9 and house10 are in the same sign as the ruler of the 1st, 4th, 5th or 7th house
- Lord of 9 and 10 are located in the 1st, 4th, 5th or 7th house
In the modern world, the owner of Dharma-Karmadhipati yoga can turn out to be a successful businessman, politician, scientist, movie star, achieve prosperity and fame in the field in which he is engaged.
The presence of Dhana Yoga in the horoscope also gives material success and prosperity in the financial sphere. One can speak of such a yoga if there is a combination between the rulers of the 2nd and 11th houses and the rulers of the 1st, 5th and 9th houses, especially if they are placed in another favorable house.
There are different varieties of Dhana Yoga, Lakshmi Yoga being considered the most auspicious of them. In Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra it is mentioned that Lakshmi yoga is formed if the lord of 9th house is essentially strong (in exaltation or own sign) and is in angular house and Lagna lord is also in strong position. Other sources mention that the ruler of the 9th house should be essentially strong and be in a kendra or trikona in conjunction with a strong Venus in a similar position.
Chandra-Mangala yoga is another variety of Dhana yoga and is present when the Moon and Mars are together in the same sign or aspect each other (in opposite signs or in mutual reception), especially if they occupy a strong position in the horoscope.
There are a large number of different planetary combinations suggesting success and prosperity, but within the scope of this post they cannot all be listed.
