You Can’t Do This!!

As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at any time, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.elephant-cub-tsavo-kenya-66898

He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” the trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before or biggest reason for believing that our friend’s society everyone says that “You can’t do this”. Whenever you start something different everyone comes to you and say just leave it, this is very tough, you can’t do this, you will never succeed in this work?????And you get frustrated and demotivated and start thinking like he/she is right.I am not able to do that or achieve create boundaries but remember these boundaries are created in your mind these are not real like this elephant rope.
Failure is part of learning; we should never give up the struggle in life.
Just Do your passion don’t think about failures.

  1. I really enjoyed reading this about this concept. I never thought about why elephants never try to break away being such hugs strong beings. Conditioning does prevent us all from moving ahead. I look forward to more learning from you Nidhi. God bless you for bringing you into our lives !!

  2. This story resonates with me. I struggle with feelings of inadequacy and often it is a learned response from childhood. I need to be like The Little Engine That Could, and say “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…” Then, as Nike suggests, Just Do It 🙂
