Ketu

“KETU IS A NEUTRAL, HYBRID, INERT, SUFFERING, DESTRUCTIVE PLANET. IT CREATES DISTURBANCES IN PEOPLE’S MATERIAL ACTIVITIES, WHICH MAKES THEM LOSE INTEREST IN LIFE. KETU IS DEPICTED AS A HEADLESS TORSO WITH THE BODY OF A FISH, WHICH IS CALLED THE “TAIL OF THE DRAGON”. HE HOLDS A FLAG OF SELF-GLORIFICATION IN HIS HAND. KETU IS LESS DESTRUCTIVE THAN RAHU AND LEADS PEOPLE UNDER ITS INFLUENCE TO LIBERATION FROM REPEATED BIRTH AND DEATH, MAKING THEM PASSIVE.

Ketu is the rest of Rahu’s body. He also received his part of the immortality elixir and was placed 180° from the planet Rahu. Ketu is a decapitated semi-planet, as shadowy as Rahu, but not as inauspicious. Therefore, Ketu is considered moksha-karaka (the cause of liberation from the cycle of birth and death or an indicator of enlightenment, which frees a person from the shackles of birth and death). This semi-planet gives a person spiritual tendencies, asceticism and non-attachment to worldly desires and ambitions. Also, Ketu bestows wisdom, the ability to distinguish between good and bad, jnana – spiritual knowledge and knowledge of one’s original nature. He gives psychic abilities to those people who are under his influence and endows them with mastery in the art of treating herbs, spices, food; in tantric healing, in the treatment of people possessed by evil spirits, ghosts and astral forces. People under the influence of Ketu also have the ability to enter unnoticed or blend into the crowd.

The effects of Ketu are similar to the influence of Mars, but this is only one of the ways in which Ketu has an adverse effect and strength.

Ketu can be more destructive if it is in an unfavorable position or in close conjunction with another planet. Ketu destroys the power of the planet with which it is connected or the house in which it is located, causing the planet to act in a completely unpredictable way.

Ketu’s sign is Pisces while Rahu’s sign is Virgo. Pisces belongs to the Guru – Jupiter, and Ketu also dominates him. Ketu is exalted in Scorpio and its declining sign is Taurus (according to some scholars, Ketu is exalted in Taurus and its declining sign is Gemini).

Ketu’s body consists of a human torso in the upper half of the body and a Pisces body in its lower half. His nature is tamasic, hybrid, inauspicious, terrible and deluded. It is neither masculine nor feminine (although some scholars attribute to it a feminine nature), it is dominated by the wind, it is old, strong at night, has an animal nature, obsessive, violent and unconscious in behavior.

Rahu and Ketu are considered elemental and instinctive forces. But Rahu is hedonistic, and Ketu is not attached to worldly desires. If Rahu is auspicious in one’s horoscope, then Ketu, at the same time, is inauspicious and destructive.

Ashvini, Mula and Magha are the nakshatras of Ketu. Friendly signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Capricorn and Pisces. Cancer and Leo are hostile signs. Ketu is friendly to Mercury; to Saturn, Venus and Jupiter – neutral. Sun, Moon and Mars are the enemies of Ketu. Ketu has strength in Taurus, Sagittarius and Pisces. According to some scholars, Rahu and Ketu have similar qualities – they both destroy the ability to reason and make a person subject to animal inclinations and violence. But basically we must remember that if Rahu is favorable, then Ketu will be unfavorable. Exalted Ketu (in Scorpio) gives favorable results also when it is in the 3rd, 6th or 11th house. Rahu affects the mind and Ketu affects the body.

Ketu governs the stops and the Northwest direction. By looking at the position of Ketu in the horoscope, we can learn about hands and feet, skin diseases, leprosy and accidents. Also, Ketu governs maternal relationships, he gives his best and worst results at 48 – 54 years. Ketu governs sesame seeds, black or dark green clothes, flags, oil, gold, iron, weapons, and the disabled. K.N. Rao believes that computers are also controlled by Ketu.

Affected or ill-disposed Ketu gives – imprisonment, accidents, fear, anxiety, leprosy, skin diseases, hunger and starvation. Ketu makes people secretive and causes nightmares. It gives pain in the joints, diseases of the joints and nerves, and excessive heat in the body.

Ketu produces destruction in a terrible and violent way. It is associated with smoky gray clothing. In numerology, Ketu is associated with the number 7 and anyone born on the 7th, 16th or 25th day of any month is ruled by Ketu. The deity is Shri Ganesha.

Ketu’s stone is the cat’s eye.
